Title: The details in the DEVILS: Exploring the co-evolution of galaxies and halos over the last 8 billion years.
Over the past two decades large galaxy evolution-focused surveys (such as SDSS, 2dfGRS, GAMA) have unequivocally changed our view of the local Universe in terms of large-scale structure, the astrophysical processes occurring within galaxies and the effect of environment on galaxy properties. However, it is not the processes occurring today which forged the z~0 Universe, but the factors which drove galaxy evolution and structure formation over the proceeding 12 billion years.

Finally, I will discuss future prospects with ESO-4MOST’s Wide Area VISTA Extragalactic Survey Deep (WAVES-deep – wavesurvey.org) which, in the next decade, will probe to a similar depths as DEVILS but cover 15 times the area; targeting ~1 million galaxies at 0.2
