Title: Detection and reconstruction of gravitational-wave bursts
Abstract: Gravitational waves (GWs) have been detected for the first time in 2015 and so far all detections were made using templates for well-modelled binary inspiral systems. However, an unexpected source requires a non-templated analysis. I will start the presentation by introducing GW bursts and the method that is used to search for such sources; special focus will be given to gamma-ray burst searches. I will also present results from a recent study that estimates how well we can reconstruct unmodelled GW source waveform h(t), a key piece of information necessary to identify the source. Lastly, I will briefly describe new projects that I am involved here in Portsmouth.
