Title:Testing gravity with gravitational waves
Abstract:
In this talk, I will give an overview of my journey into physics and the research I’m undertaking here at the ICG. The main focus of the talk will be to introduce the key foundations on which my research project rests. For this, we will take a step back to understand some of the arguments that motivate the search for deviations from general relativity in the first place. Then, I will give a non-exhaustive introduction to the topics of modified gravity and gravitational waves as I have encountered them. With this setup, we will be able to join the two together and see ways in which the modified gravity space can be constrained with the detection of gravitational waves. Finally, I will present our results on this matter in the context of ringdown constraints of the speed of gravitational waves in dark energy-motivated theories with hairy black holes. I will close by listing some ideas in which we are planning to carry on this work.
