Title: We’re gonna need a bigger boat: learning about high redshift galaxy evolution using simulations and machine learning techniques
Abstract: In this talk I’ll give a whirlwind review of some of the research I’ve been doing over the past few years, and my upcoming plans at the ICG. This will include an introduction to the First Light and Reionisation Epoch Simulations (FLARES), a series of zoom simulations modelling galaxy evolution during the epoch of reionisation over an unprecedented range of overdensities. I’ll also talk about some projects using machine learning applied to simulations, both to extract unique insights, as well as to accelerate modelling and enable new science. Finally, I’ll briefly talk about some of the recent JWST high-z results, and how we can tell whether any of these galaxies are ‘too massive for Lambda-CDM’.
