Title: The Effect of Environment on Type Ia Supernovae in the Dark Energy Survey
Abstract: Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) are important cosmological probes due to their standardisable nature enabling their role as distance indicators. However, analyses of SNe Ia have found puzzling correlations between their standardised luminosities and host galaxy properties: SNe Ia in high-mass, passive hosts appear brighter than those in lower mass, star-forming hosts. This raises questions about their validity as standardisable candles. In this talk, I will present an overview on SNe Ia, the importance of their environments, and present intriguing results from my prior work on this topic, using data from the Dark Energy Survey.
