Investigating the degeneracy between modified gravity and massive neutrinos with redshift-space distortions
Abstract: Modified gravity (MG) typically enhances large-scale structure (LSS) formation relative to GR due to fifth force effects. Free-streaming of massive neutrinos suppresses structure formation. The risk of a degeneracy exists where the LSS in a universe with MG and heavy neutrinos is difficult to distinguish from that of one with GR and light neutrinos. However, the growth rate of structure remains different in each scenario. In this talk I will discuss my research into how redshift-space distortions can be used to extract the growth rate and break the degeneracy.
